Statement from Evonne Klein, Candidate for First Selectman
The election on November 8th is about the future of Darien. The issues before us are not Democrat or Republican issues, rather they are community issues. When I ran two years ago, I made a commitment to work hard to make improvements to our community. You can learn more about what’s been accomplished at www.reelectklein.com. I am proud of my results and if re-elected I will continue to serve the community and most importantly continue the progress we’ve made on the following initiatives:
1. Maintaining a more responsive government;
2. Improvements to our parks, beaches and train stations;
3. Implementation of the $200,000 grant dedicated to addressing
traffic along the Post Rd;
4. Expansion of our Emergency Response Plan;
5. The revitalization of the downtown;
6. Maintaining our fiscal discipline, streamlining Town Hall
operations and identifying efficiencies;
7. Improved tax relief for seniors.
I have served the Darien community as an elected official for the past ten years, four of which were on the Board of Selectmen. I have the leadership experience and proven results needed to effectively govern our community. I hope I can count on your support and continued confidence.

Evonne Klein is clearly in command of the facts and issues that surround being First Selectman. Please tune in to News 12 on Sunday for her "debate" with Susan Young. Well, it would have been a debate if Mrs. Young had not refused to participate. Evonne did show up, however, and spent the entire half hour show outlining the real accomplishments she has achieved for Darien in the past two years and her plans for the future.
The show will be broadcast on News 12 Connecticut on Sunday 10/23 at 7 am, 1 pm, 3 pm and 6:30 pm.
The fact that Susan Young refused to debate the issues with Evonne Klein in the only forum that will reach virtually every home in Darien shows that Ms. Young is not ready for prime time. Ms. Young is, in fact, the only candidate for the top office in any town covered by News 12 who refused to participate in the debates sponsored the station. That simple fact speaks volumes about her candidacy.
Please tune in and see what Evonne has to say. Evonne Klein is clearly the better of the two candidates. But please don't take my word for it, see for yourself and make up your own minds.
