Aging in Place with Grace
A subcommittee of the Human Services Planning Council is conducting focus groups with Darien seniors to find out what services they use, what services would be helpful, and what their vision is for staying in their homes. The subcommittee's intent is to make Darien more supportive for individuals by identifying and remedying gaps in services. The subcommittee will meet after the holidays to compile information and talk about next steps.
In her Aging with Grace blog, Wyn Lydecker chronicles her work with the subcommittee and her church to provide services to seniors that will allow them to stay in their homes.
A number of communities are undertaking similar efforts. This New York Times article provides a good overview of aging in place initiatives in CT, NY, and NJ. For more resources, download the Commission on Aging's and Darien Social Services' Senior Resource Directory.
