The Town Plan is Nearing Completion
The final 2006 Town Plan is nearing completion. The Planning and Zoning Commission will consider its adoption at an upcoming meeting in late May or early June.
If you would like to know more about how other towns have dealt with town planning, the Library has several books that might interest you. The author of A Better Place to Live: Reshaping the American Suburb studied new suburban developments and compared them to older towns to determine how suburbs can provide residents with an excellent quality of life. Sprawl is a hot planning topic. In Suburban Nation: The Rise of Sprawl and the Decline of the American Dream, the designers of the New Urbanist community Seaside, Florida, criticize zoning regulations that create sprawl and suggest alternatives. A Field Guide to Sprawl takes readers on an aerial tour of the many types of suburban sprawl.
